Lake Segara Anak is a stunning crater lake nestled within the caldera of Mount Rinjani, located on Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Its name means “Child of the Sea” in the local Sasak language, reflecting its serene, ocean-like appearance at an elevation of around 2,004 meters above sea level.

Volcanic Origins: Formed in the caldera of Mount Rinjani, the lake surrounds Mount Barujari, a small active volcano that often emits smoke, adding to the dramatic landscape.

Duration: Most treks to Segara Anak take 3 days and 2 nights, making it a
favorite among adventure seekers.
The lake is considered sacred by locals. Hindu pilgrims
often leave offerings at the lake and nearby hot springs.
A local myth speaks of Dewi Anjani, a goddess believed to reside in a palace
beneath the lake.
A revered ancient tree near the lake is believed to grant wishes

The cinder cone is Gunung Baru (new mountain). The lake covers an area of 11km2 and its volume was (before the eruption) estimated at 1.02km3. This is probably the largest hot volcanic lake in the world. The lake elevation is 2000 meters asl.
Segara Anak Lake Mount Rinjani is a crater lake contained within Mount Rinjani on the island of Lombok in Indonesia. The name Segara Anak means child of the sea given to the blue color of the lake reminiscent of the sea. The lake is heated, so its temperature is 20-22 °C, about 5-7 °C above the expected temperature for a lake in that altitude. At the west end of the lake is the volcanic cone Gunung Baru, giving to the lake a crescent shape.
